8 dimensions, countless benefits for hospital pharmacies.
The High Performance Pharmacy^SM project, an ongoing initiative of the Health Systems Pharmacy Executive Alliance, seeks to identify how hospital pharmacies can enhance their performance—and prominence—within the health systems they serve. The High Performance Pharmacy study, the latest product of the Executive Alliance's research, identifies the 8 areas, or "dimensions," in which hospital pharmacies should strive to achieve high performance.

The 8 dimensions are:

1. Leadership
2. Medication preparation and delivery
3. Patient care services
4. Medication safety
5. Medication use policy
6. Financial performance
7. Human Resources management
8. Education

Building on the 8 dimensions, the High Performance Pharmacy study identifies over 70 performance elements—structures, policies, procedures, activities, and practices—that serve as indicators of high performance and result in a financial or clinical return on investment of resources.
